APMS HVAC

One of our last remaining projects at APMS is the ongoing HVAC issues from 2006. We have classroom uninvents, that are loud, break often, etc. They were discontinued before they were installed and were just never programmed or tested properly.

Another part of our problem is our software for automation (the big thermostat that runs the entire building). Panda hosts a server that gives maintenance staff the ability to monitor temperatures, turn on fans, lighting, and so much more. This was also never programmed properly.  There have been hundreds of tweaks, but it still isn’t right. Thank you to everyone for putting in tickets over the last few years so we can track the data. It’s so important!

Since 2006, the maintenance staff have continuously had to repair, replace, reprogram things to keep it going. We’ve created a plan to get things right. Just as Panda did with the internet/network in 2017, and we now have reliable network. We’re taking that same method and planning and applying it to the HVAC and energy systems.

Step 1: Upgrade and fix the software. Must get it right + efficient.  (Starting this month)

Step 2: Check all the wiring to all the units. (Summer)

Step 3: Replace or Retrofit the 42 uninvent units in the APMS classrooms to something quieter, more efficient, and works properly. (larger project 2026+)

We have been working with ComEd, who offers funds to help schools fix things like this. We just received $68,000 from ComEd to get started fixing the software! We will keep applying for more funds. It’s a phased approach and will take some time to complete.

We also now have an electronic maintenance plan to keep track of filter replacements, part replacements, etc. This allows us to ensure we keep our systems healthy and to control costs. We did a complete inventory of equipment and are tracking everything. Thank you for your patience!
