Greetings Parents and Families of Arbor Park Middle School:
Our first year proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience for everyone. We felt positive momentum from our students headed into summer. During the summer months, it seems so quiet in the buildings without the energy that our kids provide. Our administrative team focused our first year on assessing current systems and data while building relationships with our students, staff and families. It was really exciting to see staff create so many new clubs for our students last year. Some of the new clubs we established included the Science Club, Tech Club, Intramural Club, Fitness Club and the Panther Leadership Team. Our focus is to empower our students to make Arbor Park Middle School become the best it can be. The student perspective is critical to building the best school and community possible.
Some of our goals for the upcoming year include a focus on improving attendance and our collaboration with parents and staff. Our motto for this year will be “Be Responsible; Start on Time.” Our new bell schedule for the school year ends four minutes later at 2:31pm. Please note that students will begin their day promptly at 7:55am in their first Core class and students will be allowed in the building at 7:45am so they are ready to go! Connections period has been eliminated and transformed into an Advisory period in the middle of the day so we can teach our Social Emotional Learning Curriculum called 2nd Step.
Please discuss and work with your student(s) to help support our three Panther Codes (Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.) Although we enjoyed great success with our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program that resulted in National Recognition, we still have so far to go. We will continue to implement all the great incentives that we began last year and look to our students to provide feedback to make our program relevant. Our students are truly the stars of our PBIS program and we will begin to increase our number of behavioral interventions this year. One such behavior intervention you may hear about is Check-In/Check-Out. This program involves students meeting with adults during the school day to provide corrective feedback and guidance.
We are truly thankful to have such an involved PTO and community. We encourage you to join our Parent Teacher Organization. They provide many social activities for our families and complete the critical home-school-community link that benefits our students.
Throughout the year our school website, periodic calendars, and newsletters will attempt to provide you with the most current information. However, many times you will have questions or suggestions about ways we can improve. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us here at Arbor Park Middle School.
Yours in Service,
Ron Murabito, Principal
